Hope Happens
Our Mission: To find a cure for ALS by funding progressive research and in the process create a new methodology for funding, researching and developing treatments for ALS and other neurological disorders.

Stroke

Stroke is the largest single cause of neurological crippling in the U.S., and the nation’s third-leading cause of death. Over the course of a lifetime, four out of every five American families will be affected by stroke. Approximately 750,000 Americans have a stroke each year. Stroke incidence can be reduced by lifestyle changes which reduce cardiovascular risks. Although there are five million Americans living with stroke, there has never been a drug treatment to improve function or speed recovery after a stroke has occurred.

Opportunities

Washington University has one of the world’s largest and most productive stroke research teams in the world. Investigators study molecular pathways leading to neuronal injury, cellular mechanisms of death, brain imaging in stroke and human stroke recovery. New basis science projects will focus on identifying novel therapies to support neuronal regrowth and reconnection after injury.
